History
The company was founded as Bill Lee Yachts by designer/builder Bill Lee ('the Wizard'), originally in a Santa Cruz, California building known as 'the chicken coop.' Lee pioneered ultralight-displacement boats (ULDBs); his 68-foot Merlin (1977) set a Transpac course record that stood for 20 years. Production models ranged from the popular Santa Cruz 27 up to the SC50, 52, and 70. Bill Lee sold the company in 1995; it later operated as Santa Cruz Yachts (and moved production to Green Cove Springs, Florida) before going out of business.
