History
Watkins Yachts was founded in 1973 by the four Watkins brothers (Redford, Richard, Robert, and Gary). Its first boat, the Watkins 23 (1974), was a modified version of the Helsen 22, built with the designer's permission. Around 1980 the company was taken over by Al Larson of Auroraglas and rolled out larger models (25, 32, 36) partly based on tooling acquired from the defunct Columbia Yachts (including the sister Coronado brand). Watkins ceased operations in 1989 as a division of the McLaughlin Body Company.
