Cape Dory Yachts was founded in 1963 by Andrew Vavolotis in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, starting with the small Cape Dory 10 sailing dinghy and later the popular Typhoon series and cruising yachts from 22 to 45 feet, many designed by Carl Alberg. Producing over 5,000 boats, Cape Dory became an icon of New England yachting before folding in 1992; several designs later passed to Robinhood Marine under founder Vavolotis.
